PU Jihad conference: GCU moot: AIOU Symposium
PU conference on Jihad
Lahore, Nov, 08, 2007: The audio-visual show of
two day national conference on 'Concept of Jihad in Islam in the Current
Scenario', organized by Faculty of Islamic Studies Punjab University will held
at Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre at 7:30 pm on 8th
November(today).
GCU moot on Saturday
Department of Economics of the Government College
University (GCU), in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission, is
organizing a one-day conference on "Financing the Higher Education in Pakistan:
New Challenges of 21st Century" on Saturday. The conference will cover the
government's perspective, institution's perspective and students and parents'
perspective.
Symposium on Iqbal Day
Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU)
and Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) will jointly hold a special symposium on
Iqbal Day falling on November 9. The topic of the symposium is 'Pus Che Byed
Kard: in the light of Iqbal's thought.' AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr. Mehmoodul
Hassan Butt, Professor Fateh Muhammad Malik and Iftikhar Arif will jointly
preside the symposium while Dr. Pirzada Qasim, Tahir Mehmood Khan and Dr. Atiya
Syed and Dr. Ayub Sabir will present their thesis.
Foreign Services Academy delegation visits PU
Lahore: The Punjab University acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr
Muhammad Arif Butt said that tolerance is a must for peace in the world. We
should develop patience to listen to the views of others and concentrate on
diplomacy to maintain peace and brotherhood. He was addressing a 40-member
delegation from Foreign Services Academy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
Islamabad, comprised of participants from 29 countries, at PU Institute of
Bio-Chemistry and Bio-Technology. President PU Academic Staff Association
(PUASA) Dr Mumtaz Salik welcomed the delegates and briefed them about objectives
of PUASA. PU registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan briefed the delegation about
the university infrastructure and academic development. Director Institute of
Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal Jadoon also delivered a lecture on
different aspects of administration for a successful diplomacy. The delegation
comprised five members each from Afghanistan and Iraq, two each from Azerbaijan,
Kyrgyzstan and Mozambique and one each from Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi,
Comoros, Djibouti, Gambia , Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Kazakhstan, Kenya,
Libya, Madagascar, Mali, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Sudan, Swaziland,
Tanzania, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Zambia and
Zimbabwe.
Fellowship awarded
The International Union against Cancer has awarded the
International Cancer Technology Transfer Fellowship to Shahid Mahmood, cancer
registry officer at Cancer Registry & Clinical Data Management, Shaukat
Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre. This fellowship is
supported by the National Cancer Institute, USA, and a group of cancer
organisations in Europe, North America, and Australia. According to a press
release on Wednesday, the fellowship will help Mahmood receive training in
cancer registry operations at a cancer registry in a developing country and
compare it with the existing system of cancer registration at Shaukat Khanum
Memorial Hospital. He will learn about new features of cancer registration to
provide timely and quality information to other healthcare
