HEC revises curriculum of Pakistan Studies
ISLAMABAD, Nov 21, 2007: Higher Education Commission (HEC) has revised
curriculum of Pakistan Studies in the light of standardized template and
framework.
The initiative has been taken in a meeting of special
curriculum Revision Committee, HEC in the discipline of Pakistan Studies held
here Tuesday.
The meeting was chaired by Member Academics, HEC Dr. Riaz
ul Haq Tariq and other experts in Pakistan Studies subject. The experts resolved
that curriculum of BS Pakistan studies program may be brought up to
international standards and to give broad-based knowledge to the students. In
this connection, the committee suggested several changes according to a uniform
framework for BS as given by HEC. The committee resolved that total number of
credits hours for BS Pakistan Studies will be 131 and duration of the program
would be four years with 8 semesters.
While, ten (10) specific foundation
courses were suggested of 30 credits hours and fourteen (14) major courses
including research project and internship were suggested. After a long
deliberation, the committee developed a framework and revised the courses. New
courses were incorporated. The process is underway and members were assigned to
develop courses details according to their specializations. Dr Riaz ul Haq Tariq
briefed the participants about description of the structure and framework for
bachelor degree program to be followed for all disciplines, Basic, Applied and
Social Sciences. He stressed to develop the curriculum for BS Pakistan Studies
in the light of the template. He said that previously it used to be vertical
teaching. Now by adopting the template a broad based knowledge would be provided
to students at bachelor level. app
