QAU protests: LUMS 'model UN' 2007
Protests at QAU against emergency enter third week
ISLAMABAD, Nov 22, 2007: Students of the Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) continued
protests against imposition of emergency on Wednesday.
The QAU students
held protest demonstration on the premises of the university as their campaign
entered its third week on Wednesday. They raised slogans against the government
and termed proclamation of emergency unjustified.
They urged the
government to restore deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry as well
as people's fundamental rights. They demanded early restoration of the
constitution and release of lawyers and political activists. Criticising the
government for curbs on media, they said that freedom of media should be
restored. They warned of dire consequences if their demands were not met and
said the government would be responsible for that.
To express solidarity
with lawyers and other segments of the society, which have been struggling
against the imposition of emergency, the QAU students said they would make a
chain of hands today (Thursday). They also announced to observe 'black day'
against suspension of the constitution and proclamation of emergency in the
country.
