RMC convocation on 27th
Rawalpindi, Nov 22, 2007: Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) is holding its seventh
convocation on November 27 wherein degrees will be awarded to graduates who have
passed from RMC in the year 2006 and 2007 under the University of Health
Sciences (UHS), Lahore.
"Like always, this convocation will inspire and
motivate the students by inculcating in them a sense of responsibility and
achievement," said Head Institute of Psychiatry Department, Rawalpindi General
Hospital and Chairman RMC Convocation Committee Professor Dr Fareed Aslam Minhas on Wednesday. He is the chief organiser of the
convocation ceremony as well. Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC)
Professor Dr Atta-ur-Rehman would be the chief guest at the ceremony while
Principal RMC Professor Dr Muhammad Musaddiq Khan would highlight the
establishment and progression of the college, informed Dr Minhas.
Giving
details of the RMC achievement, Dr Minhas stated that students of Rawalpindi
Medical College boast a rewarding position on the postgraduate level as all
postgraduate institutes of the country have RMC graduates working as their best
doctors.
"Rawalians have also been offering their invaluable services
abroad, making a mark for themselves and their country. There are about 1,500
graduates working in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Saudi Arabia
and the Far Eastern countries," he said.
The college has collaborated
with international medical bodies and enjoys full recognition by Pakistan
Medical & Dental Council (PMDC), College of Physicians and Surgeons
Pakistan, General Medical Council of UK, Royal College of UK, World Health
Organisation and has a temporary registration in Illinois, USA, he
informed.
Dr Minhas added that the faculty and students of RMC have been
actively involved in researches in different fields of medicine while members of
the teaching staff have won some of the most prestigious awards offered by
government agencies and private foundations.
"Wherever possible,
students are involved in research projects, the results of which are integrated
into the related course of instructions," said Dr Minhas adding that there is a
link programme between British Council, HEC and RMC, which involves students at
the undergraduate level into research projects. They are also nominated to visit
universities in UK as part of this research programme, he
said.
Rawalpindi Medical College was established in 1974 and has catered
to over 6,000 students from all ethnic and cultural groups of the country. It
has also trained foreign nationals from different parts of the world including
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia,
Nepal, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. The students
have been a source of pride for the college who, at about 34 times, have
snatched top positions in the university and have attained distinctions in
different subjects on more than 128 occasions. The News
