Rootsians to represent Pakistan
Islamabad, Nov 09, 2007: The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sponsored students of the Roots School System for a trip to Japan to attend the South Asian Students Invitation Programme being held in Tokyo from November 19 to 28.
The Rootsians, along with their teacher and Roots School System Director Faisal Mushtaq, were invited to a lunch by Japanese Ambassador Seiji Kojima at his residence here on Thursday prior to their departure to Japan.
Talking to us, Faisal Mushtaq said that the Roots School System is the only school selected on the basis of its contributions to the Pakistan-Japan Friendship Initiatives and overall achievement in academics to represent Pakistan at the forum of South Asian students.
"It is a great honour not only for the Roots School System but for the whole country that our children will be representing Pakistan," he said.
The director said that the programme is being held to promote mutual friendship and understanding between peoples of Japan and South Asian countries. He said that it is a follow-up of decisions taken during former Japanese prime minister Yoshiro Mori's visit to Pakistan in August 2000.
Four students of the Roots School System along with one head teacher who have been selected for the South Asian Student Invitation Programme include Zarlish Amjad of Grade O-I, Mariam Ghaznavi and Mohammad Raza Jaffri of O-II and Maaz Ashiq of A Levels. They have been provisionally selected on merit on the basis of their contributions to the Pakistan-Japan Friendship Initiatives over last few years. The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has agreed to fully sponsor this visit including the air ticket, transportation, accommodation, logistics, travel and food. Students from India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Nepal and Bangladesh have also been invited to participate in the programme. The News
