'Students who beat Imran are in PU hostels'
LAHORE, Nov 24, 2007: Punjab University (PU) students said on Friday that the
students who had manhandled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan were
still in PU hostels despite claims by the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) and the PU
administration that they had been thrown out.
Ahsan, a PU student,
claimed that former PU IJT nazim Muhammad Ayub was still residing in room 49 of
Hostel 1 though the IJT and the administration claim of throwing him and various
IJT workers out. He said the IJT workers who had manhandled Imran Khan were
still in PU hostels. He said Nadeem Arshad was in Hostel 4, Usman Rasool Ghumman
in Hostel 7 and Zahid Naveed in Hostel 1.
PU IJT media secretary Imran
Kiyani said the IJT had not threatened anybody. He said all students' claims to
the contrary were baseless propaganda. He said the IJT had cancelled the
membership of those who had manhandled Imran Khan. He added that the former IJT
nazim, Muhammad Ayub had left the campus after he had tendered his
resignation.
PU registrar Dr Naeem Ahmad Khan said the administration had
told all hostel wardens to throw out all illegal residents from the PU hostels.
He said the students who were being threatened should complain to their
department heads or the student adviser. Dr Khan said the university would make
sure of everyone's safety. He said the administration would hold seminars in a
few days to settle matters down.
Ali, a student at the PU Law College,
said that since IJT workers had a strong influence on the PU
administration, they had gotten the details of students from all departments. He
added that the IJT workers were calling up the families of almost all students
telling them to ask their children (PU students) not to participate in anti-IJT
events. Ali said he knew PU Law college student Rao Samiullh and PU Institute of
Communication Studies (ICS) student Naveed Alam, who had been among those who
started the anti-IJT movement. He said both the students were receiving life
threats from the IJT every day. Daily Times
