Text books not available to school students
ISLAMABAD, Nov 22, 2007: The
first quarter of the academic year of students of different schools in the
federal capital ended and they are going to take their first term examination
but so far the ministry has failed to provide course books, TheNation has
learnt.
The students of different government schools complained that they
had not received books of different subjects, including Moral Education,
Physical Education and Biology.
The students of 9th class did not receive
the book of biology, which is an important subject, and they are relying only on
notes.
The books of other major subjects like Chemistry, Physics and Maths
were also not provided as per the demands of students. Initially some students
got the books but rests of the students are still waiting.
It is also
pertinent to mention that due to scarcity of Arabic language teachers in the
country, the Ministry of Education had made the compulsory Arabic subject of the
class sixth, seventh and eighth as optional and introduced Moral Education and
Physical Education. But the students did not get the books of Arabic or the new
subjects.
A teacher from Islamabad College for Boys, G-6/3, requesting
anonymity said if the ministry failed to provide books on time then these
subjects could not be taught to students so that they could continue the
previous subject. "The students have suffered a lot due to the lack of
coordination and ill-planning by the ministry," he added. Another teacher from
F.G. Girls Model School F/7-2 said, "We have repeatedly informed the directorate
but relaxed attitude was witnessed on the part of the directorate and the
students are still waiting for the books". The Nation
