Applications for UK Chevening scholarships open
KARACHI, Nov 22, 2007: The OSI/FCO Chevening/Royal Holloway University of London
scholarships provide an opportunity for independent postgraduate study in the
UK. "Students demonstrating both academic excellence and the potential to become
leaders, decision makers and opinion formers can apply for the programme," said
a British Council representative. The scholarship leads to the award of a
Masters degree in one of two fields at the moment: an MA in politics, democracy
and governance and an MSc in medical sociology.
The scholarship is only
available to applicants who are nationals and are residing in Pakistan the year
they apply. Applicants must have a secondary degree from a UK university along
with an appropriate English language certification approved by UK universities.
Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously studied outside
their home. Two conditions must be guaranteed by the applicants: one, they must
return to their homeland after their scholarship period is over and two, they
must not already have an HMG-funded scholarship. Candidates will be short listed
by the University of London's academic staff. These candidates will then be
interviewed at the end of March or beginning of April, 2008 by representatives
from the Open Society Institute (OSF) and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office
(FCO). Selected candidates will be informed by the end of April, 2008 of their
acceptance. Application forms are available at the local British Council centres

The last date to submit your application is
January 31, 2008. All relevant academic documents must be attached with the form
along with any documentation the applicant might find important. The OSI/FCO
Chevening scholarships are jointly funded by the OSI, the UK FCO, and the
University of Cambridge. The scholarships are intended to provide opportunities
for postgraduate study in selected fields in the UK for scholars and young
