FDE scholarships for middle & matric students
FDE to award scholarships to 500 students
| Islamabad, Nov 20: As many as 500 students of middle and matriculation level will
get scholarship on merit this year under the centralised system of examination,
conducted by Federal Directorate of Education (FDE). "The scholarship
will be provided to students of Islamabad Model Colleges (IMCs) and private institutions, on the basis of their results in the centralised
primary and middle level examinations," official sources told this
agency here Wednesday. |
|
About 300 top students, including 150 girl
students, of middle classes will get a scholarship amounting to Rs200 on monthly
basis for a period of three years. While 100 boys of SSC and as many number of
girl students will get Rs300 for a period of two years, the sources added.
They said the scheme to award scholarships was launched a few years back
and as a whole, 1300 students benefited from it every year. About Rs1.3 million
are being given annually under the scheme.
The sources said that the
introduction of centralised exams for primary and middle classes had created a

noticeable change can be seen in the results of these schools and model
colleges.

Students facing transport problems in Islamabad
Islamabad: The student community in the federal capital is facing acute
shortage of transport facility.
There are about 400 educational
institutions operating in the city, while transport arrangements for thousands
of students are insufficient. Though, many institutions have their own
arrangements for pick and drop of students, but it was not sufficient to
facilitate the entire community. A large number of students, coming from out of
the city, reach their respective schools and colleges through private transport,
which often misbehave with them.
Talking to this agency, many students
shared their sufferings and rude behaviour of transporters with them.
A
student Abdul Rahim said that school/college buses ply only on specific routes
and he has to use local transport to reach his college.
"It is one of
the big problems for all those who come from out station," he said. Students
complained that majority of local transporters do not stop their buses on stops
where they are waiting.
Salim, a college student said due to financial
problems, he couldn't pay full fare of bus, while transporters are reluctant to
allow tickets on concession rates to them.
Sources in Federal
Directorate of Education told that FDE has provided 100 buses to various public
sector institutions in the capital to facilitate students. The News

AAUR holds course on 'Plant Ecophysiology'
Rawalpindi: Department of Environmental Sciences, Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid
Agriculture University, Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) has organised an international
training course on 'Plant Ecophysiology in a Global Change Environment' in
collaboration with Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs here at the AAUR campus,
says a press release.
Plant Ecophysiology has long been a topic of
interest for many plant biologists, but the recent public debate on global
climate change has provided an increased momentum for this discipline.
Plant functions are directly linked to the climate and the atmospheric
carbon dioxide concentration. Any climate change affects the plant's immediate
environment and thus, directly influences physiological processes.
The
main objective of this course is to provide general background knowledge about
Plant Ecophysiology in relation to climate change and techniques used for plant
ecophysiological research.
Professor Dr Azra Khanum, Acting Vice
Chancellor AAUR, in her address as the chief guest at the course's inaugural
ceremony appreciated the efforts of the Department of Environmental Sciences to
hold this international training for young scientists/researchers and PhD
students of the University and termed it an excellent opportunity for young
researchers to learn advanced skills in the field of Ecophysiology and
environment that would help improve their research capabilities.
She was
of the opinion that such kinds of trainings are very important in the present
global scenario when scientists have shown deep concerns about the global
climatic changes and food safety.
One of the resource persons from
Italy, Dr Mauro Centritto, Senior Scientist National Research Council, Italy,
briefed about the course and highlighted its significance and salient features.
He urged to understand the potential impacts of climate change (e.g., drought,
carbon dioxide, temperature, etc) on plants.
Professor Dr Sarwat Naz
Mirza, Dean Faculty of Forestry, Range Management & Wildlife, welcomed the
chief guest and the resource persons from Italy and thanked the Italian Ministry
of Foreign Affairs for providing financial support to hold this training course.
Successful completion of this training would equip the young researchers
with advanced knowledge and modern skills that are extremely important to tackle
problems related to plant growth under the changing global climatic
conditions. The News
