HSC-II candidates' academic year put in jeopardy
Karachi: The external candidates, whose HSC Part-II Annual Examination 2008 (Humanities Group) results were withheld by the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi (BIEK) are likely to lose a precious academic year due to the negligence of the BIEK examination department, it was learnt.

The BIEK withheld the results of 91 candidates of the aforesaid group due to incomplete documents while those of 43 students were withheld for being involved in using unfair means during exams. On condition of anonymity, a candidate whose result was withheld for incomplete documents said that he was not issued any letter from the BIEK to consult the concerned section to remove the objections for receiving his result. He said that he made several visits to the concerned section but to no avail and was rather advised to come after the Supplementary Exams are over.

The student somehow managed to put forward his complaint to the Controller of Examination, BEIK, Agha Akbar Mirza but that too didn't work. He said that he submitted an application to Mirza and narrated the entire story and was assured by the former that his matter would be resolved the following day.

Despite being recommended by the Controller, he was not entertained while the staff at the concerned section asked him to write another application mentioning that he (candidate) was sent a letter by BIEK that his documents were incomplete and based on that he would be issued his result. "Why should I write that when BIEK has not sent my any letter," questioned the candidate. He said that if he didn't get his result before the supplementary exams are over, he might lose his academic year if he later finds out that he had failed in any paper. He revealed that some people had offered to him to get his marks sheet issued in two days with marks of his own choice, provided he greased their palms with Rs10,000.

Asked why the student was not entertained, Agha Akbar Mirza said, "He should submit the documents he has been advised to. Only then can his result be issued."
