Results of class XI announced
Hyderabad, Nov 15: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education
Hyderabad, has announced the result of Higher Secondary School Certificate
part-I (class-XI) annual examinations 2008 of science general, pre-engineering
and pre-medical groups.
According to result of pre-medical group, 13,904
candidates appeared in the examinations out of which 8,074 were declared pass in
all six papers and results of 296 candidates withheld for one or the other
reason.
In pre-engineering group, 10,598 candidates appeared out of which
6,243 candidates were declared pass in all six papers and results of 309

"there should be no annual examination for class 9th 10th xi and intermediate the examinations will be conducted under control of bise by samister system on monthly basis and marks will be distributed on basis of regularity and punctuality,behavior in class and etc hope in this way copy culture will be ended and my other suggestion is that from class 1st to 8th same system may be adopted as the student in future will face same system on university level and there no mid term and final term examinations our system of education run 4 ten months in a year each month in 1st week chap#1 of each subject will be completed and in the second week 2nd# chap will be completed and in third week revision of both chapters will be done and in last week of the month tests will be conducted on monthly basis in thix way the student will be saved from tutions and choacing classes hope my request will be considered in interest of student and parents.thankx."

Sindh Board of Technical Education Karachi (SBTE) suppl exams schedule
Karachi: The Sindh Board of Technical Education Karachi (SBTE)
has announced that the Matric (technical) supplementary examinations will start
on November 17. In a press release, the SBTE controller of examinations said
that the admit cards had been dispatched to candidates through their

School from Hell?
Karachi: The St Xavier School's historical building caters to about 300 students
of four different government schools and is not only deprived of basic
facilities but the building itself is also in a horrible condition.
St
Xavier Government Boys' Primary School has been running without electricity
since the early 1980s and does not have a potable water connection since the
early 1990s. "I don't remember exactly when the electricity was disconnected but
it was in the early 1980s and for some reason the potable water connection was
also disconnected in the early 1990s," said former headmistress of the school
Hameeda. The schoolteachers have switched to the Kunda system to run fans in the
summers, thanks to education department's authorities, and every morning
teachers collect money to pay people to bring water in leather bags for the
students.
The school, unlike its description, suggests is not located in
a small village in a far away district but in fact is located in the middle of
Karachi at Lucky Star in Saddar Town. The building basically belongs to the St
Xavier Government Boys' Primary School but three other state run schools have
also taken shelter there, as their buildings were either un-fit for human
inhabitation or were forcibly vacated. Due to the sheer negligence of the
authorities of the Sindh Education Department the three schools were never
provided with buildings and they shifted to the St Xavier building to avoid
being shut down completely.
The history of the building reveals that
previously it was a missionary school established by the Catholic Christian
community in1941. The school was named after Spanish Roman Catholic St Francis
Xavier. It was a famous school before the partition of the sub-continent. In
1972 the then Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto started nationalising
private institutions and the school was taken into government custody. "No
renovation work has been done on the school's building since it was nationalised
and now its condition is posing serious risks to the students, we demand that
the government makes the students and teachers vacate the school otherwise an
accident is inevitable," said an elderly neighbour of the school.
Hassani Children's Home and Government Boys' Secondary School was
established in the street next to St Xavier Government Boys' School about six
years ago but it was forcibly vacated and the building was then used to
construct a commercial plus residential plaza. The building of the Sindhi Memon
government primary school was in such a condition eight years ago that holding
classes in it was not possible so both the schools shifted to the St Xavier
building. As the Katchi Memon Government Primary School was also almost in ruins
and no renovation was done on the building, the school was shifted to the St
Xavier building. "Several school buildings in the city are either in shambles or
forcibly vacated and as a result schools are forced to shut down, to avoid the
same consequences the three government schools rushed to this historical
building," said an elderly schoolteacher on conditions of anonymity.
Plaster from the walls and the underside of stairs often falls during
school hours and as there are no sweepers the classrooms have started to
resemble garbage dumps. Most classrooms have no doors or windows and most
benches and chairs are broken. There are heaps of garbage in the corners of
classrooms. The story sadly does not end here as garbage is set on fire next to
the school forcing students and teachers to inhale smoke and fumes. "There was a
building constructed in the same era, adjacent to the school, that fell a decade
ago, since then it has become a garbage dumping site and people of the area,
even city district government employees throw garbage there and set it on fire.
The students and teachers are forced to inhale smoke all the time," said a lady
on condition of anonymity. Recently in Kemari town a portion of a school
building fell and as a result many students were injured, but despite that the
concerned authorities have not even bothered to conduct a survey of school
buildings in deplorable conditions.
When Provincial Minister for
Education Pir Mazar-ul-Haq was called for comments he was not available. "After
the Kemari incident the minister had issued orders to the education executive
district officers (EDOs) in all districts of the province including Karachi to
immediately conduct surveys of government school buildings which are in
deplorable conditions," said the minister's Public Relations Officer Parvez
Narejo. He said that the minister clearly issued directives that all schools
located in risky buildings must be vacated. "If any school falls and students or
teachers are injured the district EDO would be responsible for the incident," he
