Punjab Universty BA/BSc exams schedule 2009
BA/BSc annual exams now from Feb 17
Lahore, Nov 20: The Punjab University has decided to take BA/BSc annual
examinations 2009 one month earlier than the schedule, keeping in view the
larger interests of the students.
According to a press release issued
here on Wednesday, there was a clash in the dates of matric and intermediate
examinations with BA/BSc exams, which, earlier, were to start from March 12.
Due to lack of examination centres and supervisory staff and other related problems,
the conduct of the exams was not possible before May 15 and if the exams were
started from May 15, the students had to face problems in getting admissions to
MA/MSc, besides dealing with the problem of loadshedding.
Controller
Examinations Prof Zahid Karim Khan said that the PU Examinations Department had
written a letter to the Education Department of the Punjab government in this
regard and a meeting was called, attended by members of boards intermediate and
secondary education and other stakeholders which, after thorough discussions,
decided that the BA/BSc exams should be started from Feb 17 instead of March 12.
He said all the colleges were informed in this regard 10 days ago and they had
been instructed to complete BA/BSc courses.
Prof Zahid Karim further said
the PU decided to start the exam on Feb 17, to facilitate the students in
getting admissions to MA/MSc. He said 170,000 students, including 120,000
private students, appeared in the BA/BSc exams last year, adding that the minor
change in the schedule would not affect the private students as they do
preparations on their own while colleges had been informed in this regard about
three and half months before the exams. The PU spokesman said as the PU was the
largest examination conducting body in the country, therefore, the schedule of
the exam had been very carefully revised keeping in view the larger interests of

Punjab varsity vice-chancellor hears complaints of students
Lahore: Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran visited
Khalid Bin Waleed hostel at Allama Iqbal (Old) Campus on Wednesday and listened
to the complaints of the students.
According to a press release on
Wednesday, regarding hostel mess, the vice-chancellor instructed the Hostel
Superintendent Dr Qamar Zaidi to reconstitute the Mess Committee and include
maximum number of students in the committee. He asked the students to become a
part of this system and help administration resolve their problems. The students
demanded new TV and furniture for the TV Room on which VC Dr Mujahid Kamran
assured them that new TV would be provided till Monday. He also advised them to
watch TV in their free times only and pay their basic attention to their
studies.
The students, who have been recently given the possession of
the 16 rooms, which were earlier occupied by the external elements, thanked the
vice-chancellor and demanded to visit hostel on permanent basis. Dr Mujahid
Kamran told them that he has been visiting Old Campus hostel for the last three
weeks continuously as he has fixed every Wednesday to look into the affairs of
Allama Iqbal Campus.
The vice-chancellor instructed the hostel
administration to improve the arrangements of drinking water and cleanliness. He
also instructed the superintendent and the guards on duty not to allow entrance
to hostel without a student card.
Lecture on dengue at PU : THE PUNJAB
University Health Centre will organise an awareness programme on Dengue Fever
tomorrow (Friday) at 10 am in the Undergraduate Block, New Campus in which
Director District Health Programme Dr Zia-ud-Din will deliver a special lecture.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran will chair the ceremony.
According
to a statement on Wednesday, on the instructions of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr
Mujahid Kamran, a committee under the head of Chief Medical Officer Dr Farasat
Ali Sayed with the help of Resident Officer-II Malik Zaheer Ahmad has launched a
special campaign to prevent the fever. During the campaign, Deltamethrin (anti
mosquito medicine) is being sprayed on the PU campuses. Over 70 per cent area of
the campus including 20 hostels, residential colony and adjacent areas has been
fumigated and all the remaining areas of the campus and the old campus would be
fumigated during the campaign. PU Health Centre has also launched an awareness
campaign for teachers and students of the varsity and this programme is part of
the campaign.
Exam schedule revised: THE Punjab University has issued the
revised schedule for practical examination of BSc Medical Laboratory Technology,
Elective Subject Paper-VII, Opt (Exfoliative Cytology), 2nd Annual Examination
2006 and 1st Annual Examination, 2007. According to a press release on
Wednesday, under the revised schedule, the practical exam of the said paper will
be held on November 22 instead of on December 23 at 9:00am in Shaikha Fatima
Institute of Nursing and Health Sciences (for candidates from Lahore). Detailed

Inter-Collegiate declamation contests from December 2
Lahore: The Chief Minister Punjab Inter-Collegiate Speech competitions
will start from December 02 and continue till December 05.
These
contests will be held at district headquarters. The winner of these competitions
will be awarded first prize amounting to Rs.20,000, second prize Rs.16,000 and
third prize Rs.10,000. It was disclosed by Secretary Board of Intermediate and
Secondary Education Haji Muhammad Dogar while addressing a special meeting of
principals of colleges on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by DPI (Colleges)

Technical Education Board Punjab. The Secretary of the Board briefed the meeting
about the speech and essay writing competitions.
According to details,
speech competition (Urdu and English) for male students will be held on December
02 and 03 while competition for female students will be conducted on December 04
and 05 2008 respectively. It is pertinent to mention that the management of
these competitions will ensure the appointment of impartial judges for the
preparation of results.
The topic of speech at district level for
intermediate students is 'Naya Safar Hai, Puranay Charagh Gul Kar Do' while
students of degree classes will speak on 'Dastar Unhay Dee Hai Jo Sar Hi Nahin
Rakhtay'. In addition to that, in speech competitions held for the primary
schools, female students of Tehsil Lahore City Navera Babar, City District
Government School, stood first, Mehvish Amanat Ali second and Iman Zubair
secured third position. In the competition among male students, Aun Abbas of
Comprehensive High School Ferozepur Road Lahore came first, Muhammad Asif of
Government Primary School Kahna second and Muhammad Tayyab of Iqra Haffaz
Secondary School Chungi Amarsadhu grabbed third position. The News
