Punjab university announced MIT exam result
Lahore, Nov 26: Examination Department of the Punjab University has announced
result of Masters of Information Technology (MIT), Second Year Second Annual
Examination 2008 and First Annual Examination 2009. A press release here on
Wednesday said that detailed result was available at PU website www.pu.edu.pk.

PU awarded PhD degree
Lahore: The Punjab University has awarded a PhD degree to Farkhanda Malik, the daughter
of Malik Fazal Elahi, in Zoology. Farkhanda's thesis was "Studies on Amino Acid
Producing Bacteria Through Microbial Fermentation Using Different Agricultural
Wastes." According to a press release here on Wednesday, she completed her
thesis under the supervision of Punjab University Department of Zoology Prof Dr
Syed Shahid Ali.

Govt, HEC reports sought on private varsities
Lahore: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday called reports from the
federal and Punjab governments and the Higher Education Commission till December
10 on a petition challenging establishment of 40 private universities in Punjab
in violation of standards and requirements fixed by the HEC. The
petitioner, Barrister Iqbal Jaffery, submitted that more than 40 universities
were allowed to work in the province without proper buildings, science and
computer labs and other basic facilities for the students who were charged heavy
fees and other miscellaneous charges. He said the universities were
running without complying with the standards set by the government and the HEC,
thus causing degeneration in education standards and quality. He prayed
to the court to order the government should to close down such universities for
maintaining quality of education. The news

Service lanes in front of schools
Lahore: Service roads in front of educational institutions falling
under Category-A in the Saddar Division have been declared one-way to ensure
security of students. Sources informed that the
decision had been taken after detailed meetings between the City Traffic Police
(CTP) and school administrations to ensure foolproof security of the students.
They said the service roads are blocked during rush hours, which could
facilitate terrorists. Saddar Division SP Imtiazur Rehman said that
the decision had been taken owing to security concerns, adding the
CTP would also not allow parking of suspicious vehicles on the service roads. He
said one-way traffic would be allowed in front of the schools to avoid traffic

CM speech winners get prizes
Lahore: Punjab Minister for Education Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman has said that
the prizes, amounting to Rs.30.5 million, will be distributed among the
position-holders of tehsil level Chief Minister Punjab speech and essay writing
competition 2009. Prize distribution ceremonies of these competitions will be
held in 144 tehsils on December 08, 2009. This was decided in a meeting
of the monitoring committee of CM Punjab Speech and Essay Writing competitions
on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by Secretary School Education Aslam
Kamboh, Secretary Education Ahad Khan Cheema, DPI (SE) Mian Abdul Haq,
Additional Secretary Schools Ghulam Abbas Sarghana, Additional Secretary Higher
Education Ch. Akram, renowned columnist Amjad Islam Amjad and Chairman Chief
Minister's Taskforce for elementary education Raja Anwar. The meeting
was told that Markaz Level competition of primary and middle schools had been
completed, and one crore fifty one lakh rupees had been distributed among the
students of 574 markazs. The meeting was further briefed that topics of speech
and essay writing for degree level competition had been selected. The meeting
decided to constitute a special committee for the selection of topics for
