Javed Iftikhar appointed Controller of Examinations
Karachi, Oct 25: The Governor of Sindh, Dr Ishratul Ebad, has appointed Javed
Iftikhar as the Controller of Examination Board of Secondary Education. The post
had been lying vacant since May 2007, when Salim Khan was sacked, while the
Deputy-Controller, Examinations, Bizatullah Khan, was holding the charge of
Acting Controller, Examinations, since May 2, 2007.
Iftikhar was also
Controller of Examinations seven years back but resigned owing to
non-appointment of staff in the examination department, as differences emerged
between the then Chairman of the Board, Aziz Ansari, and Controller Iftikhar.
In 2000, the then chairman stopped all overtime of the staff, with the
resultant staff shortage which caused immense problems as class IX exams were to
be held. With this shortage of staff, the Admit cards were not issued in time
which created law and order situation in the board offices, as students who did
not receive the cards thronged the Board office.
Under these
circumstances, Javed Iftikhar, now holding charge of office, inspection and
affiliation, refused to work amid these critical conditions and resigned. His
appointment was made a day before the results of SSC Part 1 were to be
announced.
It is also be recalled that Salim Khan was sacked at a time,
when examinations of SSC Part I were being conducted. Khan was sacked due to the
charges levelled against him of leaking examination paper of SSC Part I and
establishing examination centres at declared black listed colleges. The News
