ELT's SPELT conference from Nov 2

Karachi, Oct 30: The 23rd Annual SPELT International Travelling Conference commences in Karachi from Nov 2. This year, the theme of Pakistan's oldest and largest English Language Teaching (ELT) event is "Opening New Vistas".

In Karachi, the conference meets on Nov 2 and 3 at Habib Public School before travelling with its key speakers to Abbottabad, Multan, Bahauddin Zakaria University, Bahawalpur, Fatima Jinnah Women's University, Rawalpindi and Ali Institute of Education, Lahore.

The idea is to replicate the event in different cities so that language teachers in Pakistan can meet and benefit from international and national ELT experts. The keynote speaker, Jane Hoelker from Qatar University, Doha, UAE, will speak on "multi cultural literature" to expand young learners' understanding and thus contributing to the theme of opening new vistas.

The British Council has sponsored Sandie Mourao from Portugal, Marc Helgeson from Japan, Fatama Atamon from Turkey, Dr. Richard Smith and Brian Shields from the UK, and Margaret Early from Canada who will all share up to date teaching strategies. The conference comprises over 85 papers, workshops and demonstrations, plus interactive panel discussions on ongoing professional development and learner-centred approach. The News
