KARACHI, Oct 21: The Board of Secondary Education Karachi has notified for the information of all the participants of Students' Week-2007 that it has been postponed due to uncertain conditions prevailing in the metropolis.

The board had earlier announced that the students' week would be organised from Oct 22 to 27.

However, the event has been postponed due to uncertain conditions.

It has been announced that new dates will be notified later and the participants will be informed accordingly.

A seminar on the academic and literary services of Mirza Qaleech Baig is being organised by the Sindhi Department of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology on Oct 22.

Abdul Haq campus is the venue. FUUAST Vice-Chancellor Dr Syed Kamaluddin will preside over the seminar and Mirza Aijaz Baig will be the chief guest.

Dr Nawaz Ali Shouq, Dr Khursheed Abbasi, Dr Noor Afroz Khawaja, Amar Sindhu, Agha Noor Muhammad Pathan, Shamsherul Haideri, Irfan Abbasi, Naseer Mirza and Inayat Hussain Leghari will speak on the occasion.

Workshop

An international training workshop on nematode identification will commence here from Oct 22.

The two-week-long programme is being organised by the National Nematological Research Centre, the University of Karachi in collaboration with the Pakistan Society of Nematologists.

NNRC Director Dr Shahina Fayyaz says the workshop is aimed at sharing experiences and understanding of the subject by local and foreign researchers and scientists.

The subject becomes all the more relevant in an agricultural country like Pakistan, she says.

The workshop will be attended by 50 scientists and researchers from different parts of the country to identify the nematodes and nematological problems through a series of lectures and laboratory sessions.

Karachi University Vice-Chancellor Dr Pirzada Qasim will be the chief guest at the inaugural session.

The resource persons will be Dr Muhammad Shamim Jairajpuri and Dr Durdana Jairajpuri, both from India, and Dr Muhammad Rafiq Siddiqui from the UK.-PPI/APP
