Waris Shah's poetry
Islamabad, Oct 26: The manner in which Waris Shah has touched the harsh realities
with sincerity of narrative is unequal and his poetry bears the characteristics
of restlessness and tumult.
Shafqat Tanveer Mirza expressed these views
while presiding over the 'National Literary Waris Shah Conference' arranged by
Pakistan Academy of Letters here on Wednesday evening.

Chairman Pakistan Academy of Letters, Mansha Yad, Hameed Ullah Hashmi, Shaista
Nuzhat and Tanveer Zaman also expressed their views while Hazrat Shaam conducted
the proceedings.
Akhter Sheikh, Dilpazir Shad and Tanveer Zaman (Veer
Sepahi) paid poetic tributes to Waris whereas Taimoor Afghani sang Heer to
delight the audience, Sanaullah Khan played the flute.

Mirza said that Waris' poetry bears the characteristics of restlessness and
tumult. The reason of his popularity is his public tone. He highlighted the
social problems in a way that is uncommon. It is high time that new generation
should research on his poetry and life and highlight its salient features. This
is the right way to give Waris his poetic right, which he
deserves.
Iftikhar Arif said that Waris Shah is not only the great poet
of Punjab but also of Pakistan. It is our tragedy that though we know about the
minor poets of foreign countries but we have very little knowledge of the major
poets of our own languages. Our national literature remains incomplete unless we
include the literature of other languages in our national stream.

Shaista Nuzhat said that Waris Shah has done public, regional and universal
poetry at the same time. He beautifully included common rituals and vernacular
in his poetry. His Heer Ranjha is the perfect reflection of our
society.
Mansha Yad said that any poet never equals the glory that Waris
Shah has enjoyed in Punjab and subcontinent. He has deep perception and
knowledge of human nature. His poetry has the elements of seriousness, romance
and pathos at the same time. Undoubtedly, Waris was a great poet who has
reflected all the aspects of human life in his poetry.
Hameed Ullah
Hashmi said that Waris Shah's Heer has no parallel. He was a poet who was well
versed with human nature. His poetic style is unique and novel. He was an
encyclopaedia of Punjab. The News
