Seminaries functional in Lahore
Lahore: Almost all madaris or seminaries are functioning in the city as
usual though all state and private educational institutions have been closed
across the country on government's orders for fear of terrorist attacks.
A survey conducted on Thursday showed 389 small and big
seminaries in the provincial capital were open and a couple of policemen had
been deployed at the entrance of each of them. Jamia Naeemia
administrator Raghib Husain Naeemi said they had neither received any direction
from the government nor threat from militants so there was no logic in
suspending education at the seminary. He criticised the government for
closing schools on security concerns, saying that it had given a negative
message to children besides emboldening militants. He demanded that the
authorities open schools and build morale of the students to prepare them for
fighting terror threats. Jamia Naeemia, Garhi Shahu, was hit by a
suicide attack this June wherein seminary's administrator Dr Sarfraz Naeemi, the
father of Raghib, was killed. Jamia Madnia, Karim Park, administrator
Maulana Ahmad Mian said the government had virtually surrendered before
militants by ordering the closure of schools. He said the government
should forge unity among the people and build them into a nation to encounter
all internal and external security threats instead of creating harassment among
the masses. Dawn
