Tribute to Dow University prof
KARACHI, Sept 29: The students and faculty members of Dow University of Health Sciences
(DUHS) attended in large number the condolence meeting organized to pay to
tribute Prof. Shoaib Tauheed, Head of the Department of Physiology
Friday.
DUHS Vice Chancellor Prof Masood Hameed Khan chaired the session
and mentioned that Tauheed was born in Larkana in 1960 and graduated from Dow
Medical College in 1985.
Since the establishment of the Dow University of
Health Sciences, Prof. Tauheed was appointed chairman of the Physiology
Department. He was also one of the members of the Curriculum Revision Committee
of the Higher Education Commission, and was involved in planning and conducting
Continuing Medical Education courses at DUHS.
The DUHS Vice Chancellor
said it was all due to the efforts of Dr. Tauheed that post graduate level work
started for the first time at the Physiology department.
The idea to
initiate M.Phil and Ph.D programs in Basic Medical Sciences was also put forward
by Dr Tauheed and the program is about to start, Dr Masood Hameed Khan
said.
He announced on the occasion that the newly constructed hall of the
Physiology Department will be named after Prof Tauheed.
Meanwhile,
students of the 1985 batch announced that the Prof. Shoaib Gold Medal will be
given to a DUHS student clinching the highest marks in physiology each year. Dow
Medical College Principal Prof Salahuddin Afsar mentioned that Professor Shoaib
Tauheed was not only a humane physician, but also a keen medical researcher, a
good teacher and an excellent human being.
Dr Meraj Rahim, Dr Intikhab,
Prof. Zia Iqbal and DUHS student Rehan also spoke. The meeting was followed by a
