Earthquake warning: Toddlers sitting outside pre-school cause panic
KARACHI, Sep 14: An earthquake warning was
issued early Thursday morning in some schools as a result of which pre-school
children aged between two and three were found sitting on the road in DHA Phase
VIII outside a certain school.
This caused concerned parents to go to
other schools to collect their children in senior classes as well. "There was a
rush of parents around 9:30 a.m. as they had come to take their children back,"
said a representative teacher from Education Bay. "After inquiring we found out
about the situation outside [...] and we assured the concerned parents that
their children would be safe."
Other schools in the area also received
calls and visits from parents worried about the earthquake warning. Parents
approached were furious with the organizational skills of the
school in question and felt that making young children sit on the road was
irresponsible.
"Most of them are younger than three years old and can
hardly find their way to the bathroom in time. How do they expect to keep them
in control if an earthquake hits, especially sitting out on the road?" said
Mariam, a very angry mother of two, who had gone to drop her
two-and-a-half-year-old daughter to the school at 9:00 a.m. Mariam then called
her two sisters, whose children are students at a neighbouring school, and they
went to collect them.
Other schools around Phase VIII said, however, that the day went by normally. "We even had a bake sale planned for
Thursday, for the seniors to raise money for their prom and everything went
according to schedule," said Aliya, a teacher at Bay View Academy. Daily Times
