Education University offers double degree programmes
LAHORE, Sep 4: The Education University will start double degree
programmes for bachelor and master degree classes from this year for the first
time in the country's history, the university's vice chancellor, Dr Munawwar S
Mirza, said on Monday. She said the varsity would give two degrees
for courses with durations of two years. She said the university was offering
two-years BA and MA/MSc degrees programmes with an additional degree of Bachelor
of Education (BEd) in all 11 campuses. She said the disciplines being offered
were chemistry, biology, and mathematics in BA and English, Urdu, chemistry and
mathematics in MA/MSc.
A meeting of the VC and the principals of all 11 campuses
was held on Monday in which the VC briefed the principals about the new courses
and heard their suggestions. She said the programmes had been designed according
to the demands of the Higher Education Commission (HEC). She said the governor
was focussing on upgrading the Education University's status. She said he had
granted the varsity Rs 225 million. She said the varsity would give scholarships
to the first 15 students for these programmes and the 15 others would be given
scholarships and fee relaxation if they were needy. She said modern laboratories
were being built according to the demands of the programmes and upgrading work
had started in all campuses. Mrs Farhat Salim, principle of the varsity's Bank
Road campus, said that the university was enrolling students in the
double degree programmes. She said her campus had received many queries for the
