Education, mass communication need attention for prosperous Pakistan: PM

ISLAMABAD, Sep 12: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Tuesday said that education and mass communication are critical areas requiring focused attention to ensure prosperous future for Pakistan.

The Prime Minister said this while talking to Federal Minister for Education, Javed Ashraf Qazi, Information Minister Mohammad Ali Durrani, Minister of State for Information, Tariq Azeem Khan and Secretary Information here at the PM House.

The Prime Minister said the government is focusing on primary, secondary and higher education in addition to creating opportunities for imparting skills training for the development of youth and ensuring a brighter future for them.

The message of government's efforts, he added, has to be sent across to the entire population by utilising all means of mass communication.

The Prime Minister said Pakistan has an invaluable human resource of 100 million youth below the age of 25, which is being provided numerous opportunities for education, skill training as well as employment.

The media, he added, can play an important role to inform, educate and create awareness among the youth of facilities and opportunities for developing their abilities and improving their performance.

While referring to the guiding principles of Quaid-e-Azam, the Prime Minister said we must instil patriotism and devotion in the nation and create awareness among the masses for the need of education so that our full potential is realised.

This, he added, would require to prepare a comprehensive schedule for implementation of relevant policies.

The Education Minister informed the Prime Minister that his ministry is working on improving curricula and syllabi particularly Pakistan Studies so that the younger generation gain proper knowledge about Pakistan's heritage and history.

In addition to this, he said, the number of schools, particularly in far flung areas, is also being increased to improve the literacy level of the country.

The Prime Minister said media has a key role to play in promoting the values on which Pakistan was created.

He said the media should highlight the freedom struggle and consistently endeavour to remind the nation of the sacrifices given by the elders. App
