FG Margalla College buses overcrowded
Islamabad, Sept 22: The
overcrowded buses of F.G. Margalla College for Women, F-7/4, have become a
matter of concern for the people on roads who see the students' lives plead in
an extremely dangerous situation which can become the cause of an accident any
time.
Standing in an overcrowded bus that is stuck in a traffic jam is
routine for the students of Margalla College. But in the holy month of Ramazan
it is unbearable for them.
The buses are severely congested with the students
seen standing near the door alongwith the conductor.
Frequently the students
are stopped from boarding the bus when the driver tells them that there is no
place for more students and tyres of the bus will be punctured if more students
enter. The Left out students have to wait for second trip about two hours till
the bus returns after leaving all the students at their houses.
The college
has only six buses, which is not sufficient for the students, as most of the
students prefer to travel by the college buses. Each bus is assigned to pick and
drop the students of two sectors. But the poor planning of the administration
has overburdened a number of buses as compared to few others.
Sector G-6 and
G-7 are heavily populated areas and the residents are mostly government servants
and belong to the middle class who cannot afford their own transport. Despite
this fact only one bus covers these two sectors, which is not sufficient. On the
other hand comparatively bigger buses give pick and drop to the students of the
posh sectors and are not as overloaded as the bus of sectors G-6 and
G-7.
It's important to mention here that teachers also avail the transport
facility of the college and it is out of respect the students leave their seats
for teachers and remain standing all the time. The students demand that the
teachers should be provided separate transport facility by the
College.
Although, the students pay about a thousand rupees transport fee
and the administration issues bus cards but this exercise starts in the middle
of the academic year and those who don't apply for the facility also enjoy it
and cause trouble for others.
The students informed about a bus for the
girls doing master's programme in Mass Communication that remains standing all
the time and the girls also travel by other six buses. " People make fun of us
and laugh at us on roads when they see us standing in the buses so close and
with conductor in a miserable condition" one of the students remarked.
There
are students who get a chance to sit on the bus seats only during Eid days when
most of the students go back to their homes in other cities and seats are empty
otherwise they travel all the year without sitting on moving bus.
Moreover,
they are also those students whose periods are finished earlier they keep their
bags and books on the seats and others who finish late are always compelled to
stand. The Nation
