GCU begins four new bachelor programmes
LAHORE, Sept 27: Government College University (GCU) Lahore has started new study
programmes at the Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hon) and Bachelor of Sciences
Honours (BSc Hon) level.
A press release on Tuesday stated that the
Deans Committee – presided over by GCU vice chancellor Dr Khalid Aftab – had
approved the decision. It was decided that the Departments of Mass
Communications, Sociology, Education and Law would award their degrees
separately. Earlier, the four departments were attached to the Department of
Political Sciences, headed by Muhammad Azhar Chaudhry, under the Faculty of
Arts.
GCU vice chancellor Dr Khalid Aftab said the new programmes would
equip the students with skills necessary for the market. He said the detachment
of the programmes would strengthen the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
He also said that after the inauguration of several new disciplines like
Telecommunications, Computer Sciences, Sustainable Development Study,
Mathematical Sciences, Bio-technology and Industrial Chemistry, it was necessary
to start the programmes independently. The four new departments would work under
the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences and would be supervised by Prof Dr
Muhammad Khalid Pervaiz, he added. Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences dean Prof
Dr Muhammad Khalid Pervaiz thanked the vice chancellor for taking steps to
promote arts and social sciences. He also said the expansion of electronic and
print media in the country required an independent Department of Mass
Communications to produce skilled media professionals. He said the Department of
