Doctors observe token boycott
Karachi, Sept 29: Doctors at the Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on
Friday observed a token boycott in all sections of the Out-Patient Department
(OPD) to protest against the murder of their colleague, Dr. Mubashir Sheikh,
Professor of Pathology and head of the College of Medical Technology who was
gunned down near his clinic in Manzoor Colony Wednesday night.
The
doctors boycotted OPDs and gathered outside the casualty department to condemn
the killing of the senior doctor. They announced holding of a meeting on
Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, JPMC's contract doctors on Friday held a
press conference at the Karachi Press Club and said they have been left in lurch
as the federal government had not fulfilled its promise of granting extension to
their services. The services 53 doctors were terminated on July 30, prompting
them to launch a protest campaign. The doctors announced resumption of their
protest if their grievances were not redressed. The News
