JPMC contract doctors move SHC for regularisation
Karachi, Sept 29: As many as 43 doctors of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre
(JPMC) on Friday moved the Sindh High Court (SHC) for the regularization of
their services.
Petitioners Dr Mohammad Waheedullah Shah, Dr Farzana
Umrani and other 41 doctors who were appointed two years back on contract basis
submitted that while serving as doctors for a considerable period have the right
to be regularised.
They said they were offered jobs for certain period
and thereafter the period of their job was extended from time to time and they
were kept on hope that their services would be regularised.
They
submitted that the act of the JPMC's administration by regularizing some of the
contract doctors and not regularising them itself constitute an act of
discrimination.
The petitioners said that they are eligible to be
regularised as the respondents (JPMC administration) are continuing to employ
more doctors on a contract basis.
The petitioners' counsel submitted
that there were clear vacancies against which they could be accommodated as
according to the March 20, 2004 notification, medical officers were regularised
who were appointed on a contract basis.
Naming federal government
through Secretary Ministry of Health and Executive Director JPMC as respondents,
the court was prayed to direct respondents to regularise the services of the
petitioners.
The matter was to be taken up before the SHC's division
bench Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Faisal Arab but could not be
heard due to lack of time. The next hearing has to be fixed by the office of the
court. The News
