Condolence meeting held for KU dead students
Karachi, Sept 15: The administration of the University of Karachi condemned
Thursday's attack on a passenger bus and has expressed its shock over the death
of its students as well as other persons in the incident. The KU has been closed
for two days to mourn the deaths.
A condolence meeting was held in the
office of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Pirzada Qasim, on Friday morning and the
meeting called on the local administration to beef up security around the campus
and elsewhere in the city so that such brutal acts do not recur.
The VC
referred to the generally peaceful atmosphere at the campuses as a result of
appropriate steps taken by the administration and noted that with the exception
of "minor skirmishes" between the rival students factions occasionally, no major
problem had emerged for quite some time. Qasim said although the tragedy had
taken place outside the university premises which is a matter of grave concern.
The meeting condoled with the parents and other family members of the
deceased students. The PVC and Registrar mentioned the peaceful proceedings of
the 'Students Week' in which the students enthusiastically participated in a
variety of programmes organized by the students of various departments.
The meeting offered Fateha for the departed souls and prayed Allah
Almighty to rest them in the eternal peace. The News
