APMSO-IJT clash at KU leaves eight injured
KARACHI, Sep 13: Karachi University (KU) became a battle field on last day of the student week, organised
by the KU Students' Adviser Office, as two rival students wings of the political
organizations clashed on Wednesday, leaving more than 12 injured, including a
women student of International Relations. Islami Jamiat Talaba and APMSO
organised various programmes to celebrate the students week as per past
practice, but at the end of the Taleem-e-Balghan programme organised by the IJT
the clash erupted between the said students wings.
It is worth mentioning
here on Tuesday KU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim extended the duration
of the student week till Wednesday .
The activists of the rival groups armed
with iron and wooden rods pelted stones at each other which left more than 12
students injured just in front of the KU Vice Chancellor office (Admin
Block).
The aerial firing was also carried out during the clash. The clash
was continued for four or five hours, while the KU administration was not
prepared to face such incident that was reported to be preplanned, as the
tension was observed by people belonging to the KU administration.
After the
clash the contingents of the rangers reached the scene and controlled the
situation, but after some moments the clash was restarted at the KU Dispensary
where some injured activists of the both wings were getting treatment. The
eyewitnesses said that the official guards of the provincial minister
Rauf Siddiqui and town nazim Wassay Jalil, who were invited at the occasion as
chief guests carried out aerial firing to prevent the activists of the IJT from
reaching towards the cars of the chief guests.
The officials of University of
Karachi, at the spot said that this was minor dispute between the student
organizations. He added that this had been resolved while few students were
received injuries and released after medical treatment.
The representative of
the APMSO, Naveed, at the incident spot, claimed that the IJT activists attacked
on the programme side of the APMSO and injured the students and teachers,
participating in the White Day programme with out any discrimination by pelting
stones and iron and wooden rods. ôIn a result of the IJT aggression the
activists of the APMSO defended their self. Some students, including Muneeb
(Mass Communication), Yasir (Statistics), Mairaj (Public Administration) and
Adil (DIT) were seriously injured during the clash, while a female student of
International Relation named mahwish Kamal also wounded seriously and admitted
to Liaquat National Hospital.
While, the representative of the IJT KU, Furqan
has claimed that the APMSO gathered outsiders of the MQM units with ammunitions
to make its White Day programme successful and sabotage the environment of the
versity at the occasion. They claimed that many students belonging to the IJT
had suffered serious injuries during the clash, including Sharjil (Applied
Physics), Asad (Chemistry), Umair (Geology) and Nouman Noor (General
History).
Meanwhile, IJT claimed that unidentified armed men came at the
hotel situated beside the Baitul Mukarram Masque, in front of IJT central office
and started firing. Resultantly, two activists of IJT included Atique and Shafiq
sustained bullet injuries and taken to Liaquat National Hospital. The nation
