School that lacks basic necessities
LAYYAH, Sept 12: The Head Tataarwala primary school is functioning without basic
facilities of furniture and electricity while scuffles among students to occupy
a few desks are a routine matter.
This correspondent visited the school
on the eve of World Literacy Day and observed that it did not have furniture
according to the requirement.
As many as 175 students have been enrolled
at Head Tataarwala primary school situated at Chak No 96-TDA, Karor Lal Esan
tehsil. Of them two-third sit on the floor or under trees. The school even does
not have the required number of mats.
Meanwhile, social worker Khalid
Khan has said that the Punjab government has granted Rs104 million under the
Education Sector Reforms Programme to Layyah district for provision of missing
facilities in schools.
He said: "Where these funds have been spent as a
majority of primary schools are without mats, furniture and electricity?". Dawn
