DUHS to start MSc in diabetes, endocrinology
KARACHI, Sept 18: The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) will start a
two-year MSc programme in diabetes and endocrinology very soon. The syndicate of
the university has approved the programme and asked doctors who graduated and
completed a one-year house job (with six months in medicines compulsory) to
apply for this programme.
Ten candidates will be selected by the end of
2007 and their classes will be held at the National Institute of Diabetes and
Endocrinology, Ojha Campus, DUHS.
This will be a two-year programme
spanning four semesters - first two in diabetes and the others in endocrinology.
Candidates will be required to write 20 cases - six on diabetes and 14 on
different aspects of endocrinology – and they will be posted in rotation at
orthopaedic, gynaecology and paediatric wards and the medical
ICU.
Quality assurance team visits DUHS: Two representatives of the
quality assurance agency of the Higher Education Commission visited the DUHS in
order to evaluate the performance of the university's quality enhancement
cell.
Director Dr M. Abdul Wahid Usmani briefed the representatives about
the various quality assurance and enhancement activities at the university. He
explained that different constituent institutions of the university are
undergoing self assessment methods and practicing quality measures – keeping
portfolios, using a mentor system and standardised student and teacher
evaluations and assessments.
Different faculty members of the constituent
institutes attended the session in order to present the quality assurance
performances of their respective institutions. PPI
