PIMS budget doubles in 2005-06

ISLAMABAD, Sept 15: The budget of the Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has almost doubled in fiscal year 2005-06 compared with 2004-05.

According to reports seen, PIMS administrative expenditure was Rs 937.166 million in 2005-06 compared with last year's Rs 522.250 million. Major increase was witnessed in communication expenses. Operating cost went up to Rs 509.015 million in 2005-06 from Rs 212.22 million in 2004-05. In 2003-04, it was Rs 195.231 million. Budget for purchase of physical assets like transport, machinery, medical equipment and furniture has increased from Rs 9.45 million in 2004-05 to Rs 58.904 million in 2005-06. In 2003-04, it was just Rs 4.993 million.

The hospital's general expenses trebled in 2005-06. It covers the purchase of stationary, books, periodicals, uniform, protective clothes, diet, drugs, and ads and publicity campaigns.

According to the report, Rs 224.645 is still unaccounted for. Building rent, transportation and fuel charges have increased almost seven times. Only Rs 4,301 million was spent under these heads in 2004-05 but in 2005-06 it jumped to Rs 31.041 million. In 2003-04, it was only Rs 0.047 million.

Gas, water and power bills have increased from Rs 77.434 million in 2004-05 to Rs 92.435 million in 2005-06. In 2003-04, it was Rs 71.097 million. In 2005-06, PIMS spent Rs 30.052 million on repair and maintenance of vehicles, machinery equipment, furniture and building. Rs 18.124 million was spent for the same purpose in 2004-05 and Rs 17.082 million in 2003-04.

PIMS paid Rs 182.679 million in salaries in 2005-06 to its employees compared with Rs 163.189 million in 2004-05 and Rs 143.653 million in 2003-04. Daily Times
