PIMS students demand stipend
ISLAMABAD, Sep 9: Postgraduate students at the Pakistan Institute of
Medical Sciences (PIMS) said on Saturday that they would approach the Supreme
Court of Pakistan if the provision of their stipend was not ensured
soon.
Over a 100 students protested against the PIMS administration on
its premises. They alleged that the administration was deliberately delaying the
provision of their stipend. Protestors said most of them had been educated
abroad and had returned to serve Pakistan, but the PIMS administration was
testing their nerves by constantly delaying their promised stipend.
They
said presently they were paid Rs 1,000 per month, though the promised amount was
Rs 16,000. The protestors wore black ribbons on their arms to condemn the
reprehensible attitude of the administration towards them. The protestors
dispersed peacefully when PIMS Executive Director Fazal-e-Hadi assured them that
their demands would be met. Daily times
