Pre-Medical Part II results announced
Karachi, Sep 1: The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has announced
of Pre-Medical Part II Science Group results with a pass percentage of 52.30.
Girls clinched all the three top positions while first two positions
went to the PECHS Government College for Women.
The first and second
position was clinched by Sana Shaheen and Sadia Ishaque of the PECHS Government
College for Women who secured 986 and 978 marks respectively out of 1,100.
Aneeqa Ahsan bearing roll number 706575 of the Adamjee Government
Science College Karachi bagged third position with 975 marks.
It is worth
mentioning here that this year two per cent subject-wise additional marks were
also given to each student following a decision taken by Chairmen of
Intermediate Boards in the wake of continuous power failure and rains that
disrupted smooth holding of exams and the students could not prepare properly
for the exams. In this regard, the approval was accorded by Sindh governor.
Only one boy, Syed Shahzad Ahmed, of Adamjee Government Science College
got sixth position who secured 969 marks.
A total of 16,386 students were
registered out of whom 16,142 appeared in the exams and 8,441 students were
declared passed.
A total of 580 secured A-I Grade, 2,171 A Grade, 2602 B
Grade, 2287 C Grade, 789 D Grade while 12 secured E Grade.
The pass
percentage of male candidates remained at 37.83 while that of female candidates
at 56.87.
The gazette of the result was delayed owing to a fault in the
computer system of the board and the students kept calling newspaper offices
about the same. However, BIEK Chairman Anwar Ahmed Zai said that the result
would be displayed on the website of the board at the earliest.
Giving
the reasons of announcing the results in haste, he said that the entry tests in
medical colleges are scheduled for September 9 and it takes a week time to issue
mark sheets and if the results were delayed the students would have
suffered.
The exams were started on May 28 and ended on June 23 and the
result was announced in 60 days.
Speaking at a ceremony arranged for
position holders on the board premises, the BIEK Chairman said that the method
of examination would be changed from the next year and the question papers would
be based on 50 per cent objective questions, 30 per cent short questions and 20
per cent descriptive questions.
"The decision has been taken on the
demand of the students," he said and added that if we want to compete with the
contemporary world we would have to change our syllabus, curriculum and the
examination system.
The top position holders, who were present on the
premises of the BIEK, emphatically suggested that the present examination system
should be changed and papers should carry multiple choice questions
(MCQs).
They were of the view that the present syllabus was outdate and
suggested that an updated syllabus be introduced to compete with the
