Sharifs' homecoming: Rawalpindi to close schools, colleges today
RAWALPINDI, Sep 10: All government-run
educational institutions of Rawalpindi will be closed today (Monday), the day
former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif along with his brother Shahbaz Sharif will be
landing at Islamabad airport, ending their seven-year long exile.
However, there will be no holiday in schools and colleges of adjacent
Islamabad on the day. An official said the Rawalpindi district government had
directed heads of all city colleges and schools to close their institutions
today (Monday) to avoid any untoward situation in the wake of the Sharifs'
landing in the city. He, however, said the non-issuance of any notice in this
respect had confused parents about whether or not to send their children to
schools and colleges. He said people had learned about the holiday on TV
channels or in newspapers.
Meanwhile, Federal Education Directorate
spokesman Rafique Tahir has announced that government schools and colleges in
the capital will remain open. However, some private schools in Islamabad will be
closed. Daily times
