Students flee after armed clash at SU
JAMSHORO, Sept 27: At least 11 students of the Sindh University were injured in an armed
clash between two groups of students here on Tuesday evening. Police arrested 10
students affiliated to various wings.
The clash occurred after an
exchange of hot words between the two student groups. Both sides used arms,
bricks and sticks freely, injuring Zaid Brohi, Muhammad Zain, Shamshad, Shabbir
Ahmed Palejo, Abdul Razzaq, Sajin Brohi and others.
Later, the students
clashed again at the International Hostel but no one was injured in that
incident.
All the injured were shifted to the LUMH, Jamshoro. Police have
registered a case against 20 students, and made 10 arrests so far.
All
academic activities came to a halt as students were seen fleeing the university
in panic.
Later, heavy contingent of police led by DPO KK Memon arrived
at the university and the
situation was brought under
control.
Talking to newsmen, the students held the university
administration responsible for the troubling situation and alleged that these
groups were being patronised by the administration.
Meanwhile, Vice
Chancellor Mazhar-ul-Haq chaired a meeting to review the overall
situation.
The meeting was attended by Jamshoro DPO KK Memon, University
Registrar Saleh Rajar, Director Admission Agha Riaz Pathan and other officials
in which key decisions were taken to control law and order on the university
premises.
The police were directed to take stern action against students
vitiating the university atmosphere.
Sources said the meeting witnessed
the university administration and police making counter allegations against each
other for failing to maintain peace in the university.
Meanwhile, it was
decided to beef up security and more police pickets would be set up to check
miscreants. Furthermore, no student will be allowed to enter the university
premises without proper identification.

Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui visited the neurosurgery ward of the
Liaquat University Medical Hospital, Hyderabad and enquired after the health of
Irfan Mirzani, an student of the 2nd year of Centre of Pure and Applied Geology,
who had received head injury during the clash.
He also talked to ward in
charge Dr Wasdeve, who said that the students will be discharged within a few
days. The university Registrar also accompanied the vice
chancellor.
However, dozens of students of different universities under
the banner of Awami Tehrik student wing staged a protest demonstration outside
the press club here and demanded an end to terrorism on the campuses and strict
action against the administration. The News
