CAP issues admission lists for Inter Part-I Pre-Engineering
Karachi: The Centralized Admission Policy (CAP) issued on Wednesday placement lists for admission to 42 colleges in
the faculty of HSC Part-I in pre-engineering for female students.
Admission has been given to 5,546 candidates, of whom 1,863 secured
A-one grades, 1,649 A grades, 1,263 B grades, 620 C grades and 151 secured D
grades. Candidates with E grades were not given admission.
According to
the placement list, the admission commenced with 774 marks at the Sir Syed
Government Girls College and ended at 343 marks at Government College for Women
Korangi-6.
So far, CAP has announced admissions to the faculties of
computer sciences for male and female students, home economics for female
students, pre-engineering for male and female students and pre-medical for
female students, covering 123 colleges across the city.
The list of maximum and minimum merit for these colleges is as follows:

Malir Cantt College takes in the cream of pre-med students
Karachi: Centralized Admission Policy (CAP) Committee Chairman
Prof. Dr Rafique Ahmed Siddiqui announced on Friday the placement results of
pre-medical (boys) 2008.
A total of 2,856 students who have secured A-1,
A, B, C and D grades in their matriculation examination have been given
admission in various colleges of the city.
The merit list for Government
Degree College Malir Cantt opened at 797 marks and closed at 641 marks. DJ Sindh
Government Science College followed, opening at 791 marks and closing at 683
marks. Adamjee Government Science College had the third highest merit list with
marks opening at 787 and closing at 734.

O, A Level students wait for equivalence papers for local admissions
Karachi: International Cambridge exam O and A Level students are likely to face problems when they apply for
university admissions, as the Karachi office of the Inter-Board Committee of
Chairmen (IBCC) has been sending certificates to Islamabad for
attestation.
"I submitted my certificate to the IBCC camp office on July
20 and it is still in Islamabad," said Ahmed Hussain, who has just cleared his A
Level exams and fears that his admission to Dow University of Health Sciences
could be affected by the delay.
A major function of the IBCC is to
decide and grant equivalence to foreign qualifications by corresponding them
with Pakistani certificates at the Secondary School Certificate (SSC)
(Matriculation), Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) (Intermediate
levels) and technical education, as well as local certificates and diplomas.
IBCC also converts foreign grades into Pakistani marks at the SSC and HSSC
levels.
On an average, around 3,000 cases of equivalences are normally
processed in a calendar year, in addition to special cases decided by the
Equivalence Committee from time to time. The IBCC camp office was established in
Karachi to facilitate of the students of Sindh but the camp office has not
functioning at full steam, making it extremely difficult for students of foreign
education systems to get the certificates in time to apply to higher education
institutes.
All the students, except those of the Cambridge system, also
need the equivalence to apply to public universities. Ahsan Ahmed Khan, who
completed his Intermediate from Al-Madina School, New York, has also yet to
receive his equivalence, even though nearly a month has passed. "I wanted to
apply to NED Engineering University but without the equivalency, I may be forced
to skip an academic year," he said.
Around 150 O and A Level equivalence
cases are being processed, besides certificates of other systems. Commenting on
the issue, IBCC Secretary Muhammad Ramzan Achakzai said there were two examining
boards of the United Kingdom, including the University of Cambridge
International Examinations, known as CIE, and the Ed Excel International
Examinations. He said that, mostly, it was the CIE students who complained about
the equivalence policy. The problem was caused by the CIE's policy of issuing
percentages and not the actual marks on its certificates issued to Pakistani
students.
"The CIE has been repeatedly asked to print the original marks
on its certificates but to no avail," said Achakzai, adding that the equivalence
certificates of the other systems were issued as quickly as possible after
confirmation from the relevant offices. The News/Daily Times
