Reclaiming KU land from land mafia begins
Karachi: The University of Karachi (KU) has revealed that it has begun the process of
reclaiming the university land from the land mafia and will complete the process
after going through the legal process. A case in the process is that of a
press titled 'Ali Garden' situated on the other side of the university and
occupies an area of 500 sq yards, actually belongs to the KU.
Vice-Chancellor, KU Prof. Pirzada Qasim had served a legal notice to the
concerned press on October 13, 2008 and a reminder was sent on October 30, 2008.
The concerned press was asked to present all the legal documents and allotment
notifications within the period of seven days otherwise the building would be
demolished. A notice was also sent to the now defunct KDA wing (CDGK) which
stated that this piece of land, with survey No 168 Safoora Deh, belonged to KU.
The land measuring 7.24 acres is situated in front of the university.
The press has encroached on a piece of the same land. The current occupants
claim it is the legal property of his brothers Muhammad Farooq and Muhammad
Javed which is spread over an area of 500 sq yards, and they bought it in 1988
through an auction which was advertised in Daily Dawn. The map of this press
shows that it is approved by KDA. In reply to this, on the order of the
VC, KU legal section submitted a counter-affidavit in the High Court which
states that the Karachi University is the legal owner of this land which is
situated in which was allotted to it in 1954 by the Chief Commissioner Karachi
and was also surveyed by the Survey of Pakistan and other government
departments, defunct KDA asserted the allotment. The concerned
authorities had granted its physical possession along with the marking pillar to
the competent of authority of KU of that time. In this regard the University
reserves the rights to claim its legal ownership. So, the present construction
should be demolished. Beside this, a similar letter was also sent to the
District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) land in the same dates but the answer has
not been received as yet. Despite this, a petition is submitted by the
illegal owner of the concerned press which is against CDGK KDA wing and KU. In
the light of the actual facts, the University has requested the High Court that
the present illegal owners should be ejected from the KU land.

Saeed issued notices to the services and general administration department in a

submitted through Advocate Zamir Ghumro that they have been deprived of their
substantive charge and made 'officers on special duty' by the respondent
department. They said their posting as OSDs was a prelude to their removal from
service on the ground of rigging of the 2003 competitive examination.

CSS Exam
Karachi: The bench also issued notices to the establishment division and the Federal
Public Service Commission questioning the condition of 50 per cent aggregate
marks in order to qualify for the viva voce of the central superior services
competitive examinations. Ten candidates of the 2008 examination said
they obtained the requisite marks in the individual subjects but could not
secure the aggregate of 50 per cent. They said the condition was
introduced by the FPSC in 1990 by amending the relevant rule but it was
repugnant to the letter and spirit of the Constitution, which favoured weightage
to the less developed areas. Dawn
