Edu Dept-teachers' row yet to be settled
Karachi: Sindh Education Department has failed to resolve its dispute
with Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) over different
issues related to college teachers and education. The disagreement
between both the entities is causing chaos in the process of admissions
to intermediate classes under the Centralised Admission Policy (CAP),
starting from July 28, 2009, while the department is focusing over the
issuance of the show cause notices to the teachers belonging to SPLA. Commenting
on the situation, central leader SPLA Prof Ather Hussain Mirza said
that Director-General Colleges, Sindh, Dr Rafique Ahmed Siddiqui was
just following the government agenda hence he was not interested in
releasing burden from old government college by giving admissions to
students to 7 new colleges in the City. The colleges are being over
crowded year by year but the education department is heedless towards
the college education, he said. Sycophants of politicians and
bureaucrats belonging to Sindh Education Department were studying
abroad therefore they did not care about anything related to the
deterioration of college education. He said that teachers' community
would continue its struggle for legitimate rights of the community. On
the other hand, Prof Iftikhar Muhammad Azmi, general secretary SPLA,
Karachi and observer member of CAP Committee-2009, has disclosed that
due to non-serious attitude of chairman CAP Committee towards
education, considerable chaos and mess is expected at government
colleges. He said that registration of placement forms was still going
on in SRE Majeed Govt College, Stadium Road and, about 6,000 placement
forms are pending. "The chairman CAP Committee has increased the seats in the colleges
without any consultation with college principals. No facility is
provided to the colleges where seats are increased for the students
placed in 2009. The increase of seats will cause many problems due to
shortage of teachers and furniture and other facilities, where colleges
are already overcrowded. There is dire need to start education properly
at new colleges which are already ready to open and proposal is already
sent to the Education Department. The education department has send
this proposal to education minister, but the matter is still pending
and the results of CAP-2009 are expectedly announced in the first week
of September," he added. Azmi said that Director General Sindh
(Colleges), Karachi and chairman CAP Committee himself along with CAP
members visited these colleges and then ask to write report and
constituted three members comprising of Director Inspection Sindh
(Colleges), Karachi and two members of CAP Committee to submit report
within three days. Names of such colleges include Govt Degree Girls
College, Safora Goth, Block 12, Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi, Govt Degree
Girls College, Buffer Zone, Govt Girls Degree College, Pak Colony, Govt
Degree Girls College, Surjani Town, Govt Degree Girls College,
Gulshan-e-Maymar, Govt Degree Girls College, Kharadar, Panjabi Club and
Govt Degree Boys College, Metroville, Orangi Town, he added. The nation
