National Internship Programme induction
30,000 fresh graduates to be inducted under NIP
Islamabad, Sep 02: To create skilled youth pool in the
country, Ministry of Youth Affairs (MoYA) would induct 30,000 fresh
graduates under its National Internship Programme (NIP). The applications for induction of new interns will be invited through electronic and print media this week. The
unemployed graduates and post-graduates, below the age of 25 are
eligible to apply for the internship. The candidates will be appointed
after complete verification of their documents from Nadra. The
ministry is working on a comprehensive plan to train the skilled youth
so that they can play their role in the development of the country, the
official said. The scheme is aimed at providing
financial relief to the fresh graduates and engaging in acquiring
additional knowledge and real life work experience. The project
of "Economic Empowerment of Youth" of the ministry would help harness
potential of the young educated generation toward the right direction
by training programmes and internships. The ministry has already provided employment opportunities to around 25,000 young graduates through internship programme. The
sources said that the unemployed post-graduates and graduates who have
completed 16 years of formal education in any discipline from HEC
recognized universities and colleges including external candidates will
be appointed for one year with stipend of Rs10,000 per month. After
successful completion of one-year internship, interns will be awarded
NIP experience certificate. The ministry is also working to
increase coordination among skill development institutes to run youth
programmes effectively, he informed. The news
NIP third phase delayed for 2 weeks
Islamabad: The launch of the much-awaited third phase of mega project
of National Internship Programme (NIP) has been again deferred for
another two weeks due to bureaucratic hiccups on the part of the
Ministry of Youth, it has been reliably learnt. The Ministry of
Youth Affairs has so far failed to formally launch the third phase of
its multibillion project of NIP, especially designed to offer
skill-based training and employment opportunities to educated youth,
despite the fact that it has been claiming for the last several months
induction of 30,000 postgraduates within a short span of time. The
NIP project was first of its kind intended to provide financial relief
to youth and to keep them engaged in creative activities. Presently
induction of 30,000 more youngsters is under consideration of the
Ministry. But, unfortunately the slow pace of the work is shattering
hopes of the millions of youth, who are depressed due to their
financial woes, caused by the unemployment and are keenly waiting for
official announcement for inviting them. According to official
source of the Ministry still the file of the project is moving from one
table to another, and it seems that the project would further be held
up for an undefined period. "It could not be said as to when it would be opened for youth", he further noted. However,
when approached another official of the project informed that they were
fully prepared and hopefully would invite the applications from the
youngsters within two weeks. In this backdrop it has been learnt
that from July of this year the Ministry officials are claiming
inauguration of the third phase within time period of two weeks. Every
year, over 50,000 youth complete sixteen years of education from
recognized degree awarding institutions of the country in a whole range
of academic disciplines. A considerable time gap between the completion
of education and job availability in majority of cases results in a
sense of frustration and waste of potential. The idea for commencement of the NIP was a temporary placement of
appropriate numbers of unemployed and educated youth in relevant and
matching government outfits that could be advantageous to the
government as well as the unemployed youth, in such circumstances. But
the dominated majority of the youth particularly those belonging to
far-flung areas of the country could not take benefit of the project in
absence of the proper awareness campaign of the programme. It is to be noted here that for NIP project RS 3.6 billion have been allocated in the Federal budget 2009-10. In
February 2007, in order to better equip graduates of the country for
their future career the government had approved a revolutionary project
of NIP, where fresh unemployed graduated from all over the country
could get one year hands-on experience with government organisations. But
delay in release of the amount has hampered the project and the
concerned quarters hardly managed to run it for more than a year. After
that the project was shifted from the Establishment Division to the
Youth Ministry and a request had been made to the Primer for getting
more funds for proper implementation of the NIP. Under the umbrella
of the Ministry, the second phase of the project was formally
re-launched in Larkana at the mausoleum of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto
Shaheed where the placement orders were given to around 500 selected
candidates. In recent past placement orders had also been distributed
among 2300 candidates in a ceremony held in the Federal Capital. The nation

ACCA invites application for environment reporting awards
Islamabad: The Association of Chartered Certified
Accountants (ACCA-WWF) invites applications for the eighth ACCA-WWF
Pakistan Environmental Reporting Awards (PERA) 2009 in the categories
of Best Sustainability Report and Best Environmental Report for
multinational and locally listed companies. Launched in 2001
in Pakistan, the PERA is endorsed by the Ministry of Environment and
IUCN Pakistan and is part of ACCA's global strategy to promote greater
transparency in the reporting of organisations' social and
environmental impacts, said news release issued here. Last year,
the PERA winners were Attock Refinery Ltd (Best Sustainability
Report-Local Listed Company), Pak Elektron Ltd (Best Environmental
Report-Local Listed Company), Hinopak Motors Limited (Best
Environmental Report-Multinational Company). In addition, Qarshi Industries (Pvt) Ltd received commendation for commitment to transparency in reporting. Dr
Afra Sajjad, Head of Education and Policy Development, ACCA Pakistan
commenting on the awards said, "Today's corporations operate in an
environment of intense scrutiny from the media, investors, regulatory
authorities and public". Increasingly the public concern about the
social and environmental impacts of business practices is forcing
companies to come to terms with being accountable to a much broader set
of stakeholders and satisfy their interests and expectations through
transparency in reporting. Hence, we see more companies in
Pakistan producing reports on their environmental and social
performance or sustainability performance." The ACCA-WWF PERA is
increasingly gaining popularity with a record number of entries
received in 2008 i.e 44 against 40 in 2007 and 24 in 2006. The upward
trend is a manifestation of the interest of business community in
developing best practices of environmental and sustainability reporting
in Pakistan. The deadline for submission of environmental, social and sustainability reports for ACCA-WWF PERA 2009 is December 31, 2009. The news
