SSD students given grace marks
Lahore: Punjab University's Space Science Department (SSD)
Chairman Prof Muhammad Ali here Wednesday said the department had
already given the students possible grace marks, while considering
their request. Clarifying a news report published in a section of
press, he said, however, some politically motivated students were
demanding more than three CGPA to all students, which is quiet
unjustified.
He said that out of the total 22 students, 17 of MSc Semester-IV have
shown in writing their unawareness and non- concern about the protest
staged by the political students group against the department.
The chairman termed as baseless the reports about departmental politics
and said that all faculty members declared as unjust demand that 21
candidates having 2nd division in FSc and BSc must be given 70 percent
or above marks in MSc only by adding grace marks in previous semester.
Dr Muhammad Ali said these students had no objection on the
marking/evaluation of answer-sheets but they were asking for grace
marks in the previous semesters. He said the faculty is of the view
that the results of previous semesters should not be reviewed because
of time barred and against the rules.
About the students' demand of starting MS and PhD programmes of higher
studies, the chairman said one student has recently done PhD from the
department and another student's PhD is in progress. However, the
department could not start regular PhD programme as the number of PhD
teachers was not at par with the HEC standards to launch a regular PhD
programme. Dr Muhammad Ali said the department would launch regular
MS/MPhil programme from the next academic year.
