City Govt not serious to run road safety education drive
Karachi, Sep 13: The City District Government Karachi does not seem to be serious in
running the Road Safety Education drive, as hundreds of thousands of
campaign-related posters, broachers and pamphlets could not be distributed among
the school going children and were dumped into the storerooms. Sources in the
department said that due to lack of planning of Transport and
Communication Department (TCD) of CDGK one of the most important feature of the
Road Safety Education, the 'Mascot of Parrot' is not being used in the ongoing
road safety education campaign either. They said that the TCD has prepared
hundreds of thousands of such type of material to promote the roads safety
education, creating awareness among the school going children using interesting
ideas so that importance of road safety to be stuck up with the minds of
children to make them careful while crossing the roads. However, they had
started various road safety education awareness programmes and demonstration
recently but so far the TCD officials did not use the 'Mascot of Parrot, which
was the most popular mean of educating the young. They said that these days
were ideals for presentations because there is more rush of families in shopping
centres and bazaars due to Eid. A Parrot Mascot, is the most popular part of
road safety education in which a person wearing the Mascot of Parrot, standing
on busy roads informs citizens and children about road safety. According to
plan the Parrot Mascot was to visit schools and give tips and information about
road safety education in interesting manner so that children receive the message
with full motivation. Huge revenue of the CDGK spent on preparing of
leaflets, broachers and pamphlets which often do not distribute among the CDGK
schools. Parrot Mascot for spreading road safety education among school
going children was a marvellous idea to teach the children. The nation
