Fee increase at Dow University

KARACHI, Sep 29: The fee structure for new term’s first year classes at the Dow University of Health Sciences has been increased from Rs23000 to Rs27000 annually.

A Rs4000 addition has also been made to the fee of other classes as well as a significant hike of Rs50,000 has occurred to the original Rs2 lakh fee under the self-finance scheme of admissions.

According to a press note, Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) staged a demonstration against the raise in fees as well as the rustication of two students from the campus on charges of distributing religious handouts and pamphlets.

The in-charge of IJT’s professional zone called for reversing the decision of fee increase “as it is a weapon to keep poor students from attaining professional education”. “The prohibition on religious gatherings on the campus hurts religious sentiments of students, more so in the holy month of Ramazan,” said IJT’s Nazim, Hafiz Abdurrehman. They staged a demonstration on the campus and put up banners and posters on walls voicing their protest.
