St Mary's University College, Twickenham
|
St Mary's University College was founded in 1850 as a Catholic teacher training college, and about a third of its students still take teaching courses, including PGCEs. Other courses include coaching science, drama, film and TV, health and exercise, various sports degrees, history and management studies. The college, in Twickenham, is obviously popular with its 2,500 undergraduates, who gave it a good rating in the latest national student satisfaction survey. St Mary's was granted its own degree awarding powers last summer (it had been awarding Surrey University degrees) and is making plans to slightly increase its size to gain university status. St Mary's has one campus, with good sports facilities - it is the Institute of Sports' leading centre in London. The college has also been identified as a training base for the 2012 Olympics. |
