University of Sheffield
|
Sheffield is always a popular choice for students. The university has almost 20,000 undergraduates enjoying life in the lively and friendly northern city. The students' union has the reputation of being one of the best (the best, they'd insist) in the country, with great facilities and events. Lots of students get involved in the union, or in the wealth of societies and activities the university boasts. The student media are especially well thought of. University buildings are clustered close together about a mile to the west of the city centre, where you can find all the shops, bars and pubs you could desire. The clubbing here is particularly good. Sheffield has a strong academic reputation, and a major new £23m learning facility is due to open this year. The graduate employment rate is well above the national average. |
Fees
£3,070 a year for all full-time undergraduate courses. Expected to increase slightly in line with inflation.
Bursaries
There are parallel schemes. First, income-based: £665 a year for those from a household with income below £16,375, £410 a year for those from a household with income between £16,375 and £33,770. Second, prior achievement: up to £1,585 dependent on A grades at A-level, subject of study and household income, those from the poorest backgrounds who achieve three A grades at A-level get the full £1,585 regardless of subject of study. An outreach bursary scheme awards up to £820 to eligible students.
