Master degree programs' Admission at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS)

Admission criteria for MBA (Executive)
To be considered for an Executive MBA place at LUMS, applicants will be assessed on the following criteria:
  • Good academic record (at least a bachelor's degree)
  • Work experience (at least eight years of full-time experience with five years of experience at a managerial position)
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) Score or LUMS Management Admission Test (LMAT) Score
  • Interview performance
  • Letters of recommendation

Admission criteria for MBA
  1. Past academic performance
    For admission to the MBA programme, preference will be given to candidates with sixteen years of education. The minimum academic requirement to be eligible for admission to the MBA Programme is a bachelorís degree in any subject from a college or a university recognised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan. Students without a bachelorís degree will not be considered for the MBA Programme.

    Candidates, who have degrees from such institutions that are not listed with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), will be required to get the equivalence certificate from the Commission. For further information please contact:

  4. Work experience (preferred but not compulsory)
    The Admissions Committee is especially interested in applicants with prior work experience. This experience in turn demonstrates the applicantís managerial potential and intellectual maturity. Evaluation is based on the quantity and quality of the full-time work experience, and candidates are encouraged to obtain work experience of between 1Ė2 years before applying to the LUMS MBA Programme. Prior work experience, however, is not mandatory for admission to the MBA Programme. Candidates having an exceptional academic track record complemented by a very high GMAT score, with the experience of a few internships, are also considered for admission.

Academic Requirements for MS/PhD Computer Science Programme
A minimum of 16 years of education leading to a BSc/BE/MSc degree is required. Possible prior degrees from the universities recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan include:
  • BSc/BE Engineering or equivalent
  • BSc in Computer Science (four - year program minimum units 180 or minimum credits 120)
  • MSc in Computer Science
  • MSc in Sciences (Physics/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Management or a field considered suitable by the faculty)

Candidates in possession of the above degrees may be required to overcome any deficiencies, as determined by the faculty, by taking additional units over and above the ones deemed essential for the fulfillment of requirements for the award of the PhD degree.

Candidates with a three-year degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering are also eligible to apply. Such candidates, however, will be required to do remedial work before beginning the post-graduate programme. Applicants with strong mathematical background and analytical skills will be given preference.

Academic Requirements MS/ PhD Computer Engineering Programme
A minimum of 16 years of education leading to a Master's or a four year Bachelor's Degree is required. Possible prior Degrees from universities recognised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan include.
  • B.Sc /BE Electrical Engineering
  • B.Sc /BE Computer Engineering
  • B.Sc /BE Computer Systems Engineering
  • B.Sc /BE Electronic Engineering
  • MSc Electronics
  • B.Sc (Hons) CS LUMS

Successful applicants may be required to overcome any deficiencies, as determined by the faculty, by taking additional units over and above the ones deemed essential for the fulfillment of requirements for the award of the MS or PhD degrees.

Candidates, who have degrees from such institutions that are not listed with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan will be required to get the equivalence certificate from the Commission.

LUMS Management Admission Test (LMAT)
LMAT is offered as an alternative to GMAT. Applicants who for some reason cannot take GMAT have the option to take the LUMS Management Admission Test (LMAT). For the coming year LMAT will be administered simultaneously in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad.

LMAT measures mathematical and analytical abilities, as well as proficiency in English language. Questions are designed to explore knowledge and skills acquired over a period of time. The test makes it possible to compare candidates with different backgrounds.

The test will take around three hours. There will be seven multiple -choice sections of the test, which are as follows:
  • Mathematics 3 sections (algebra, geometry, and arithmetic - 25 minutes each)
  • English language 3 sections (antonyms, synonyms, sentence completion, written expression, and reading comprehension - 25 minutes each).
  • Analytical 1 section - (patterns, sequences, analogies, logic problems, and puzzles - 25 minutes)

LUMS Graduate Admission Test (LGAT)
The LUMS Graduate Admission Test (LGAT) is a requirement for applicants to the MS/PhD Programme. LGAT will be conducted simultaneously in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad according to the following schedule.
