DUHS adopts OSPE system
Karachi, April 18, 2008: The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) on Thursday adopted the 'Objective
Structured Practical Examinations' (OSPE) in place of the earlier system of viva
and practical examinations. It will reduce the chances of "examiner bias,"
according to the DUHS.
This system has been proposed and approved by the
Academic Council and the university Syndicate for the betterment of medical
education. It has been appreciated by majority of the faculty members and the
students of the DUHS, according to the statement.
The OSPE methodology of
assessment is practiced in well reputed universities worldwide to maintain
international standard of education. The DUHS is committed to improve medical
education at undergraduate and postgraduate level. In this respect, it has
introduced the semester system of education. Similarly, methods of evaluation
have also changed to 'Single Best Questions' for theory and the OSPE for
viva/practical evaluation.
This method of examination completely
eliminates subjectivity, favouritism, and simultaneously the student has greater
chances to express their knowledge. The News
