Razmak Cadet College reopens today
MIRAMSHAH: Hundreds of local tribesmen Wednesday accorded a warm welcome to the
students and teachers of the Razmak Cadet College on arrival, as the institution
is set to reopen today (Thursday) after eight months of closure.
The
convoy of teachers and students arrived amid unprecedented security.Earlier,
Assistant Political Agent Latifur Rehman, along with tribal elders and a large
number of youths received the students in Bannu from where the convoy marched
towards the college.
Welcome banners were put in place all along the road
and announcements were made via radio stations in Razmak about the timing of
convoy. In a unique demonstration, the tribesmen also stood while waiting to
welcome the students.
Tribal elders Malik Nasarullah Khan, Malik Qadir Khan, Malik Mamoor Khan and Malik Mumtaz Khan
pledged to protect and assist the students and teaching staff of the college,
saying they were guests of the whole of Waziristan. The college was closed due
to security concerns after heavy clashes between militants and security forces
in the troubled South Waziristan tribal region.
The authorities once
considered shifting the college to Lakki Marwat after repeated complaints from
parents when students were forced to stay at homes for a long time and no
substitute arrangements made for their study. However, tribesmen and students in
both South and North Waziristan expressed their concern over possible shifting
of the college and warned to stage protest. The News
