Special grant for Sindh Medical University
Karachi: The Sindh governor on Wednesday announced a special grant of Rs50 million for the newly established Sindh Medical University (SMU).

"The new university will be provided with funds without cutting the budget of the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS)," Dr Ishratul Ebad said while chairing a meeting at the Governor's House.

He directed that a transition officer be appointed for settling certain issues between the two universities.

It was decided that the newly set up university would be renamed the "Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU)" and the necessary legislation carried out for this purpose.

The Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan Institute of Oral Health will be shifted to another location, but remain affiliated with the DUHS.

It was also decided that the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre would be a constituent of the JSMU and the National Institute of Child Health and the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases also affiliated with it.

The governor promised that the new medical university would be assisted in every possible way to bring it at par with the international standards.

The meeting was attended by Health Minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Law Secretary Ghulam Nabi Shah, Health Secretary Aftab Khatri, DUHS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Hameed and JSMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Tariq. The news

MBBS results notified
Karachi: The University of Karachi on Wednesday announced the results of the MBBS, third professional, annual examinations 2012.

A total of 414 candidates were registered and 412 of them appeared in the exams. A total of 244 students passed in the exams. The pass percentage remained 59.22. Dawn
