Entry test for medical and dental universities and colleges

Admission test for medical, dental institutions on Oct 7
Karachi, Aug 08: Entry test for admissions to medical universities and colleges in the province in medical and dental education programmes will be held simultaneously on Oct 7.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the vice chancellors of the medical universities and health department officers, with provincial health minister Dr Sagheer Ahmad in the chair, on Tuesday.

It was decided that while salient features of the last year admission policy would remain the same, four seats would be reserved at the Lyari Medical College for students from Gilgit-Baltistan.

A source privy to the meeting said that heads of the medical institutions had sought permission for a fee increase, which was not allowed.

Students will be allowed to submit admission forms, which will be made available from Sept 3 till Sept 17. New classes will commence on Nov
1. The admission test will be held at five centres in Karachi, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Larkana and Sukkur.

Regarding the reservations on offering admissions against BDS seats by the Dow University of Health Sciences at the Ishratul Ibad Institute of Dental Health for the new academic session it was decided that matter would be referred to the Sindh governor who is the chancellor of public sector universities in the province. Hydreabad: Members of the Sindh University Teachers Association (SUTA) took out a procession from the old campus to the press club on Tuesday as part of their campaign for removal of Vice Chancellor Dr Nazir A. Mughal.

The demonstrators also called arrest of the killers of Prof Basheer Ahmed Channar, director of student affairs, restoration of student unions and de-weaponisation of the campus.

Leaders and activists of the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA), Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association, Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party, Awami Jamhoori Party, Labour Party and Centre for Peace and Civil Society, an NGO, took part in the procession.

They accused Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazhar of insulting teachers and showing indifference to their demands.
