RBISE SSC-I result on Aug 15
Rawalpindi, Aug 09: Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) will announce the annual result of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Part-1, on August 15.

Controller Examination Rawalpindi Board, Humayun Iqbal said that this year results would be released on CD instead of printed gazettes.

Registration for matric supplementary until 15th
Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (RBISE) on Wednesday fixed August 15 as the last date for submission of forms for matric supplementary exams with single fee.

According to Rawalpindi Education Board spokesman Irslan Cheema, the exams would start from September 25.

The forms for the exams can be submitted with single fee until August 15 while the forms with double fee could be submitted until August 23, whereas triple fee submissions have been allowed until August 30, the spokesman said.

He said the forms were available at the board office and all Habib Bank Limited (HBL) branches, while the students could also download the forms from the boards' website (

He said that a large number of facilitation centres to help students had also been set up at tehsil level. The students in case of any difficulty could also contact the board at their office at 1-D Siddiqui Chowk, or call at 051-9290821.

The spokesman further said that all the public sector IT teachers of the Rawalpindi division would attend a special training programme arranged at the Muslim Higher Secondary School, Saidpur Road on August 9 (today). app

AIOU sets up points for sale of admission forms
Islamabad: The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has set up sale points for admission forms in Rawalpindi and Attock districts.

Besides the sale points at the university's main campus in Islamabad, forms are also available at regional campuses and coordination offices throughout the country. The sale points were set up at the Government Girls High School, Chore Company, Government Boys High School, Malhawali, Government Boys High School, Chub, Spronagaz College, Doltana, Tehsil Gujar Khan, Government High School, Jabar, and Civil College, Dhamial.

Admissions for the Autumn Semester 2012 from SSC to MA-MSc level programmes are continuing across the country. The last date for submission of admission forms is August 24.

Admission forms, along with prescribed fee, can be deposited in all branches of Habib Bank Limited, First Women Bank, Bank Alfalah and Allied Bank of Pakistan as well as in the nominated branches of National Bank of Pakistan and Muslim Commercial Bank. The list of nominated bank branches is available in prospectuses and at regional campuses of the AIOU.

Scholarships awarded to PhD scholars
Islamabad: Under the International Research Support Initiative Programme (IRSIP), the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has awarded 1,647 scholarships to PhD scholars studying in higher education institutions of Pakistan for undertaking research in top ranking universities of 37 academically advanced countries.

These foreign scholarships have been awarded in all the major disciplines including physical sciences, agriculture and veterinary sciences, biological and medical sciences, social sciences, management sciences and engineering. The information was shared during the 22nd meeting of IRSIP award committee which was presided over by HEC Executive Director Professor Dr. Sohail H. Naqvi.

The meeting was apprised that under this programme, the HEC is offering six-month research fellowship abroad to full time PhD students enrolled in Pakistan to enhance their research capabilities. It is of vital importance that the doctoral studies carried out in Pakistan are of a standard that is at par with any international reputed institution. This is only possible if candidates are provided with adequate support in research projects. The indigenous PhD students sometimes face problems in research due to paucity of resources therefore the scheme is helping to provide doctoral students exposure internationally so they could carry out research projects of high standard.

It was also informed that the scheme is also assisting ongoing Indigenous PhD programmes by providing a mechanism for PhD scholars to travel abroad and conduct research in academically advanced countries. This is providing exposure to the PhD scholars, which will enhance the quality of research that they will be conducting in Pakistan.

The programme has also been greatly helpful to develop academic linkages between Pakistani and leading foreign institutions. The fellowship package covers travel, bench fee and living expenditure.

As an outcome of this programme, the number of international research publications by Pakistani scholars has been increased from 304 to 662 with 117 per cent increase while the number of local publications has also been increased from 380 to 552 with 45 per cent increase.

Rootsians clinch four gold medals in IKMC 2012
Rawalpindi: The Roots School System (RSS) clinched four gold medals, 15 silver medals and 47 bronze medals in the International Kangaroo Mathematics Contest (IKMC) 2012.

This year, nearly 1,700 students from the Roots School System nationwide participated in the competition. The RSS achieved 100% pass percentage and bagged top 50 positions amongst 39,000 candidates in Pakistan.

The gold medalists include Najib Ishaq, student of A-levels, RSS G-8 Campus, Islamabad, Essa Ahmed of RSS 34-Civil Lines Branch and Khuzaima Umar Shah of RSS 40-Civil Lines Branch and Ali Usman Khan of the RSS 4C Model Town Lahore Campus. Najib Ishaq was selected from entire country to represent Pakistan in Romania.

Rootsians have also topped in their respective districts by winning silver medals - Roots Lahore, Wah Cantonment, Rawalpindi and Islamabad region. Silver medals winners are Syed Ali Raza from RSS Lahore, Eisha Butt, Hiba Khan, Shazib Ahmad, Sinan Safdar, Syed Mesem from RSS Wah Cantonment, Asfandyar Khan, Eiman Wajid and Muhammad Ali Raza from RSS 40-Civil Lines and Abdullah Shakeel, M. Essa Zeeshan and Zurehma Ayesha Rameez from RSS DHA-II, Sector C, Islamabad region, Omar Farooq from RSS DHA-I Sector A Campus Islamabad, Uzair Waseem from Roots G-8 Campus Islamabad and Manahil Noor from Roots F-8/4 Islamabad Campus.

The contest's main purpose is to promote mathematical thinking and stimulate an interest in mathematics by providing students with an opportunity to compare their abilities against the abilities of other students from different countries around the world. In Pakistan, the competition was first organised in 2005 by the Pakistan Kangaroo Commission.

FJWU gets resource centre in Murree
Rawalpindi: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Murree Resource Centre Board of Governors Chairman MNA Sohail Khaqan Abbassi and Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Samina Amin Qadir in Murree.

The resource centre has been handed over to the Fatima Jinnah Women University and shall be used for organising national and international workshops, conferences, seminars and colloquiums by public and private sector higher educational institutions as well as reputed organisations.
